My interest in studying the brain has its roots in fundamental questions of consciousness, especially the manner in which we are able to integrate input from the different senses into a cohesive representation. I am always seeking ways to connect theoretically compelling topics with tangible social benefits, and I see an opportunity to do so in studying the vast spectra of neurodiversity, wherein differences in cognition and perception translate into unique advantages and vulnerabilities. Through my two projects with the Viveon team, I aim to contribute not only to our understanding of these differences, but also to our ability to leverage this knowledge to offer better support.
With Digable, we are systematically synthesizing data to identify effective digital media interventions for neurodiverse youth. In Harmony Across Neurodiversity, we are seeking to harmonize data from several Amsterdam cohorts to better understand the key predictors of quality of life and mental health in neurodiverse populations. I find these opportunities to use advanced methodologies (including meta-analysis and natural language processing) to study the incredible diversity of human behavior equal parts intriguing and rewarding.
